He attended Holy Spirit Catholic School, Webster Elementary, Horace Mann Middle School, graduating from Crawford High School in 1969. He attended Mesa College part time following graduation as well as San Diego State University. Since his dad was a tuna fisherman, Fred went out fishing with his dad early after high school graduation before discovering that he would do better on land. He worked for Sears, prior to working at Dunn Edwards Paint company on University Avenue during the mid 1970’s and early 80’s. In the 60’s and 70’s he was part of a College Center Covenant Church high school/College group where he made life long friends. All the while, he travelled to Costa Rica, where his mother was from to visit family. In 1979, Fred started to attend College Ave. Baptist church where he was part of the leadership of the Singles group led by Chuck Shores. Unbeknownst to him, a young lady visited once that year and came back in June of 1980 to attend regularly. He met Pam, dated in Dec. 1980, got engaged in Feb. 1981, and married in June of that year. During their early married years, Fred worked as an EMT for Hartson’s Ambulance, and as a dispatcher at Diamond Concrete. In 1989, Fred began working for East County Materials , HG Fenton, Hanson Aggregates as a concrete mixer driver. Overall, he was a professional driver for 24 years. He was proud to tell people that he poured the concrete for the 52 freeway and even poured the foundation for Skyline Church. In 1993, Fred went back to college to finish his bachelor’s degree and graduated in 1995 from Christian Heritage College, now known as San Diego Christian College. Fred attended Skyline Church for over 30 years where he was involved in the Prayer/Intercession Team for over 18 years. Another ministry that was near and dear to his heart was serving on the Missions Committee for the past 8 years….He began going to Costa Rica in 2003 and then continued going for 8 more trips. In addition, for the past 4 years, Fred served on the ministry team at the Healing rooms in El Cajon, where he weekly served and prayed for people. For the past 2 years he volunteered weekly at Casa de Oro Elementary School where he helped children in the Everyone a Reader program. Fred had a variety of interests and hobbies. He loved hunting with friends, both deer and birds (dove and pheasant). He loved tending his garden, and growing vegetables and fruit. Seven years ago, Kenny and Fred built a homemade pizza oven in the backyard, where Fred made pizza for family and friends. He made the dough from scratch and loved having people over to enjoy the experience. In addition, he loved to bake bread and cinnamon rolls. Fred also loved getting his passport stamped. He and Pam travelled to Germany, Costa Rica, Israel, Australia, Italy, and throughout the states as well. Fred was a Prayer Warrior for many with a humble and tender heart for God and his family and friends. He was able to spend his last days in Costa Rica, a place he loved. Fred is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pam, a daughter Alicia and son Kenny. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Jimmy Luschei and sister, Molly Luschei Conaughton, and cousins, Jayne Bowman, Vernon Bowman and Glenn Bowman.
