Legacy Funeral & Cremation Care
Thomas Paul Thoryk
December 24th, 1941 - July 25th, 2017
Paul’s larger than life spirit, 75 years old, took the journey, likely dancing, to heaven to be with his mom, dad and family members who have passed. Paul’s body went into a state of rest at the 5 a.m. sunrise, which he thought was a beautiful time of day. Paul left this world surrounded by his wife, all of his children, all of his grandchildren, and his brother and sister, just as he would have wished. Paul was born in San Diego, California, the son of Ida and Joe Thoryk. He received many awards throughout high school in pole vaulting, and this is also when he met his first wife, Charlene. They married, moved to San Luis Obispo, while he attended college. In 1965, Paul graduated at the top of his class in Architecture at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. During college, he also served in the Marine Reserves. Paul’s 52-year career in Architecture was his biggest passion in life and he worked up to the day he passed away. Paul was internationally acclaimed for his unique designs and was honored with countless awards in every area of the field. His latest dream was to build the largest resort in the world in the Dominican Republic and affordable housing for low income families all over the world. His other passions were boxing, UFC fighting, art, dancing and traveling. Paul had 3 children, Brian, Teresa and Heidi and they were the love of his life. Paul had an amazing career and traveled the world in search of inspiration for his architectural designs. Through his travels and career, Paul met lifelong friends from all walks of life. He exemplified strength, generosity, creativity, fun and perseverance. In January 2012, Paul met his soul mate Clairet in the Dominican Republic. They fell in love and spent 5 ½ beautiful years together until the day he died. Paul is survived by his wife, Clairet Thoryk; 3 children, Brian Thoryk, Teresa Tracy, and Heidi McKay; granddaughters, Corie, Kaylee, Shea, Ava, and Carolyn; grandsons, Kyle, Carlo, John Paul and Isaac; brother Al Thoryk and sisters Linda and Mona Thoryk. Paul’s unlimited energy and love will be missed by all.
