James Carl Duncan
April 22nd, 1938 - July 9th, 2017
James (Jim) passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 9th 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Minutes after his passing a clap of thunder and a brief rain shower let us know that he was home in h heaven. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1995, he faced numerous challenges including surgery to place a deep brain stimulator, a device similar to a pacemaker,to help prevent the shaking and tremors associated with the disease. Born and raised in San Diego, he enjoyed numerous activities including baseball and deep sea fishing with his brothers. He often told the story of how a “yellowtail would take you around the boat a few times to try to get the line caught up in the prop!” Jim was drafted into the Army in October of 1961. He worked his way up to Sergeant E5 as a hospital supply clerk at Fort Ord Ca. He played on three different baseball and softball teams. While at Fort Ord,a buddy set him up on a blind date with a lady named Charlene. It was Love at first sight as they were married shortly afterwords. He was discharged in 1963. After the Army, he began a career in the restaurant business. He and his wife Charlene bought a small diner through a friend, Johnny’s Lucky Lunch was a small diner specializing in breakfast and lunch. They owned it for over thirty years. Jim is survived by his wife Charlene, two sons Jimmy Jr and Danny, and his sister Jeanette. Graveside services will be held on August 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr San Diego Ca 92122
