Our dad was born on January 6, 1941. His parents were Francisca Gomez and Apolinar Villegas. He had an older brother, Ramon Villegas. As a young man, his adventurous spirit took him from Nayarit to Tijuana. There he met our mother, Elsa, a widow with six children, Roxana, Patricia, Consuelo, Luis, Jesus and Carmen. The family expanded to six more children, Francisco Javier, Lidia, Elsa, Ernesto, Norma and Layla. In the 60’s he struck out again on a new adventure to the United States to make a better life for his family. One of his proudest achievements was becoming an American citizen. He had many jobs but always considered himself a roofer first and foremost. He elevated roofing to an art form, creating beauty from a dusty surface. We all have memories of dad teaching or taking us fishing. He loved spending days at the pier or on day trips at sea. There he could cast a line and be carefree. He always returned with a bounty of fish for our family to enjoy. Fishing always brought him great joy; every corner of his house had fishing objects, including the famous singing bass! Throughout his life he loved the Lord. He was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. We will remember his soulful singing voice fondly. He recorded many hymns on numerous CDs that have been widely distributed both in the US and Mexico. Along with spreading the Lord’s message through music, he took many missionary trips to Mexico donating Bibles and offering hope to those less fortunate. He spent the last years of his life with his second wife, Evelia, and her sons, Leo and Angel. He is survived by his brother, wife, all his children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To be sure, our dad, Raymundo, loved all of us. He will be deeply missed. We consider ourselves lucky that we can take his CD, press play and be comforted by his voice. Rest in peace, Dad.
