Virginia “Ginny, Gin” Lee Minnerick (Christie) 65, of San Diego, California, passed away on May 13, 2018, following a short illness. Virginia was born in Muskegon, Michigan on October 23, 1952 to the late Eugene and Lilah (DeJonge) Christie of Muskegon Heights, Michigan. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1970. During her lifetime, Ginny lived in Grayling, Michigan where she was employed at Glens Market. She left snowy Michigan to live in Honolulu, Hawaii where she was employed at The Bank of America, and in her final years, she made her home in San Diego, California where she retired from the Motorola Corporation. Virginia was preceded in death by her Brothers, Eugene “Joe” Christie and Frederick “Fred” Christie. Virginia is survived by her two loving daughters Theresa Alpers and Stacy Minnerick; sisters Lilah Matthews, Vivian Christie, Connie Christie, Mercedes Christie; brother Robert Christie, sisters-in-law, Judy Christie and Fabiola Christie and numerous other family and friends. Ginny will always be missed, and remembered as a loving Mother, Sister and Friend. She was a very strong, humble and gracious woman; extremely intelligent, hardworking and witty. Ginny saw humor in most everything and was always able to laugh at herself, had a wonderful sarcastic streak and her laugh was unique and very contagious, but most of all, she was a someone that a person could depend on, she would always take the time to listen to “a problem” and was always honest in her response, even if it was not what one wanted to hear, but she was always there with a hug, joke or a piece of good advice. She acted as “grandma” to her niece’s children while they lived nearby in California, teaching Tessa how to ride a bike. Ginny enjoyed spending time with her family, crafting or doing other DIY projects. She enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. Ginny also loved playing board, card or video games, and was a master at scrabble! She was also musically inclined and played piano and violin. In recent years Ginny enjoyed spending time with family and created many loving and fun memories. Among these were a November 2017 road trip with her daughters to Baja, Mexico. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the humane society, an animal rescue or local symphony orchestra. According to her wishes, Virginia was cremated, and a private ceremony is to be held later.
