Cecil Wayne Felkins

Cecil Wayne Felkins, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday February 22, 2023. His son, Cecil, and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer, were by his side. Born, September 22, 1944, in Stockton, CA, to parents Ira J. Felkins and Cleta Mae Fortney. Cecil was a lifelong Cowboy. In 1981, Cecil, his wife Sandra and their two boys, Cecil, and Ty, moved to the DuFrene Family ranch in Amador County. Together they formed and built the Phillips Red Angus Ranch in the Jackson Valley. Cecil was a graduate of Stagg High School (Class of 1962), in Stockton, California. After high school he attended Delta College in Stockton and then attended and graduated from Fresno State College with a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry. While at Fresno State College, the "Drifter Rodeo Cowboy", met the love of his life, Sandra, and his life was forever changed. His passion for life was exhibited by his participation in Professional Rodeo, and his dedication to the cowboy life. He assisted various ranchers in Amador County, whenever they needed help, with "day work". He is survived by his Son, Daughter in Law, and Grandson, Cecil Jr., Julie, and CJ of Gold Hill, OR. Daughter in Law and Grandson, Jennifer and Tucker of Ione, CA; Brother and Sister-in-Law, Don and Sally Felkins of Minden, NV., and various relatives in California, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Gay Phillips Felkins; Son, Ty Eugene Felkins; and 2 Grandchildren, Justin Douglas Ty Felkins and Mackenzie Joyce Sandra Felkins. A ‘Celebration of Life' will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, CA. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras County, 1500 South Highway 49, Suite 205, Jackson, CA 95642 and/or Amador-El Dorado-Sacramento Cattle Women & Cattlemen's Scholarship; checks to AESCW.
