Michael Earl Hansen
March 1st, 1945 - December 22nd, 2019
Michael Earl Hansen was 74 years old and was with his wife and family at his home in Spring Valley, California on December 22, 2019 when he left to be with the Lord. Though cancer took his body, it did not take his spirit. Michael is survived by the love of his life—his wife of 52 years, Lynda, and his children Jenny Kouri, Jody VanSumer, Jonna Larson, Joy Luce, and James Hansen, and his brother James F. Hansen. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren and by his niece, Bethany Gaut. Michael was preceded in death by his father Earl L. Hansen and his mother Minnie L. L. (Cade) Hansen. Born in Pacific Beach, California on March 1, 1945, Michael lived his entire life in the San Diego area. He worked in construction, becoming a master woodworker, as well as working in aerospace as a planner and liaison. Once he retired he became president of The Old Guys Club, with whom he fished, rode bikes by the bay, played shuffle board, and spent hours on the porch laughing and telling stories. Michael loved God and loved people with his whole heart. His home was always open and many were impacted by his natural hospitality. He baptized people in his bathtub, taught countless people how to shoot, sang songs well into the night, barbecued continually, and truly enjoyed the many people who came across his path. Michael was often heard expressing his gratitude for the good in his life. He was most vocal about how proud he was of his wife, children, and grandchildren. His greatest joy and fulfillment came from participating in and witnessing the personal growth and successes of their daily lives. He regularly blessed each one of them in their comings and goings. His presence, strength, wisdom, witty sense of humor, and hugs will be remembered and passed down to future generations. Per Michael’s request, there will be a small, private family memorial. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will continue to impact lives.
