Virginia Louise Geeding
September 20th, 1939 - July 2nd, 2023
Virginia Louise Geeding September 20, 1939-July 2, 2023 San Diego, CA-Virginia (Hellwig) Geeding was born September 20, 1939 in Williamsport, Indiana to Thelma (Oswalt) Hellwig and Claud T. Hellwig. Growing up in a small town, she had a flair for the dramatic, interrupting a high school basketball game her father was refereeing to ask for a nickel to buy candy, burning off half her hair while lighting the birthday candles on mud pies and needing to be rescued by the Williamsport Fire Department after getting her hand stuck in a pool table ball pocket. Her accomplishments included winning first prize for the best macaroni and cheese at the Indiana State Fair and having the most impossibly beautiful cursive handwriting. She married naval aviator Capt. Robert W. Geeding in 1959 and had three children. After their divorce in 1973, frequent complimentary tickets from her job at R.E. Hazard helped her become a lifelong San Diego Chargers fan. In 1977, she began working as a medical bookkeeper for William Pincus M.D. until his death in 1997. She retired from bookkeeping in 2007. In 2011, she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to be closer to her son Daniel W. Geeding (Deceased 2012), and Daughter-in-law Grace Geeding (Surviving). In 2019, she moved back to San Diego to live near her daughter Kris Geeding (Surviving). Ginny's sweet spirit stayed strong even as her health declined. In her final years, she enjoyed playing and often winning games of basketball free throw contests, cornhole, bocce ball, and water pong with her adult grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Also surviving are a daughter Pam Hartsuyker (Garrett), three grandchildren, Rebecca Farrell, Candace Hartsuyker, and Garrett Hartsuyker, a sister Pat Henn of Indianapolis, and many extended family members and friends. Her brother J. Thomas Hellwig and parents, Claud and Thelma Hellwig, preceded her in death. A celebration of her life is planned for August 6, 2023, in San Diego. Donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
