Michael Cono
August 10th, 1956 - November 30th, 2023
Michael Cono, age 67, Fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on November 30, 2023, in San Diego, California. Born August 10, 1956, in Flushing, New York. Michael was a cherished member of his community. Michael was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mary Kay Reiter Cono, and a loving father to his son, Joseph Allen Cono. He held his family close to his heart and cherished the time spent together watching beautiful sunsets and playing games at many San Diego parks. In his earlier years, Michael attended Kings Park High School in Kings Park, New York, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with knowledge and wisdom. He furthered his education at Purdue University and then at the University of Texas at Austin. Michael graduated from Stony Brook at State University of New York where he received his Bachelor of Science with Applied Mathematics. He continued his education at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri with a Master of Arts in Management. He valued education and was always eager to expand his knowledge and helped others to expand theirs. He tutored homeless GED students at St. Vincent DePaul of San Diego to assist them with obtaining gainful employment. He dedicated numerous Thanksgiving and Christmas days to volunteer and provide meals to the homeless, driven by his compassion for the underprivileged and a strong sense of purpose to serve others. For 27.5 years, Michael generously shared his skills as a Project Manager/Management Engineer at Kaiser Permanente. He found immense joy in collaborating with his colleagues, feeling valued and motivated to support his team and the Kaiser family in surpassing their collective objectives. One of Michael's favorite hobbies was vacationing with his family and exploring some amazing sites within the United States and Canada. He found solace and joy in exploring the beauty of our National Parks. His most memorable achievement was conquering the summit of Mount Whitney on several occasions. His love for nature guided him to the top, leaving him with cherished memories of each remarkable journey. This achievement symbolized his determination and unwavering spirit in the face of challenges. Michael was an avid sports fan. He loved watching Purdue football and basketball. But his true love was the New York Yankees. He definitely enjoyed the rivalry with his St. Louis family when the Yankees played the Cardinals. A ceremony to honor and celebrate Michael's life will be held at The Immaculata Catholic Church at USD Campus, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110 on Tuesday February 20, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM; Rosary 10:30 AM; Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Louis, MO for family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Immaculata Catholic Church at USD Campus in Michael's memory. Contributions to this cause will help continue the important work of the church, which has a special place in Michael, Mary and Joseph's heart. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay Reiter Cono, and his son, Joseph Allen Cono. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Cono, mother, Rose Cono, sister, Katherine Menk, and brother, Steve Cono. Their memories will forever be cherished by those whose lives they touched.
