George E. Brooks, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Sutter Creek, CA. George was born on November 28, 1922 in Daly City, CA to parents George E. Brooks, Sr. and Ethel (Creamer) Brooks. George grew up in Daly City, along with his sister Catherine, and attended the local elementary school there and graduated from St. James High School in San Francisco. George had a varied career path. He was a police officer in Daly City, an EMT for the City and County of San Francisco, a partner in a liquor store in San Francisco with the late great San Francisco 49er, Bob St. Clair, and also worked for the Golden Gate Bridge District, of which his brother-in-law, the late Carney Champion was the general manager. He met his wife Hazel while helping his friends who owned and operated Pastorino’s Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay. He and Hazel managed this farm for several years, living in San Francisco as well as owning and maintaining their home in Sutter Creek. George and Hazel moved permanently to Sutter Creek and George became very involved in this community. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and a member of the Sons in Retirement. He was on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Amador, volunteered for Mule Creek State Prison in their Transportation Department, and participated in the Commission on Aging. George volunteered for Amador STARS driving cancer patients to and from their treatments and being on-call if a patient needed transportation to an out-of-the-area facility. The volunteer service was of great importance to George and he did this for well over 19 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Victoria, and his brother-in-law Carney Champion. George is survived by his wife Hazel, his brother-in-law Ciro Toma and his wife Kim, his sister Catherine Champion, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Rosary on Thursday, August 2, 2018, 7:00 P.M. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, followed by interment at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson.
