Resident of Pioneer, CA Surrounded by family, Lois Margaret LaVelle went to be with the Lord at the age of 93 on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Born in Visalia, California on July 17, 1924, Lois was the youngest of five children. She grew up in Layton and graduated from Layton High School. Then she attended Warner-Pacific Bible College where she met and married the love of her life, Chet LaVelle. They lived in Cutler, Ca., then Oxnard for a few years. They had three daughters and moved to Castro Valley in 1951 to raise their family. Chet began teaching at Chabot Junior College and Lois got a job as an elementary school secretary and working with Principal Al Tingstrom, she helped open Vannoy Elementary. After a few years they moved to Chabot Elementary, then C.V.E. where she finished her career and retired. Lois was active in Castro Valley School District and had many friends. She was a part of founding the women’s group called the “D.O.s.” Both she and Chet were active in forming a parent support group for the instrumental music program, M.P.S. Upon retirement Lois and Chet moved to Pioneer and enjoyed many years traveling with their trailer. They bought a Honda Goldwing motorcycle and visited many places in the gold country with their motorcycle friends. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, crafting and camping with family. She enjoyed having large family gatherings and was a great hostess. Lois is survived by her husband of 73 years; daughters Kathy Peck and Wanda Rice; grandchildren Janine, Shelly, Jesse, Dayna, Ryan, Aimee, Erin, Isaac and Emily and ten great-grandchildren.
