Daneri Mortuary
Kevin Douglas Summers
July 1st, 1973 - November 10th, 2017
Kevin Summers, 44, of Ione, CA passed away on Friday November 10 in Lodi California. He was born on July 1, 1973 in Lodi to William "Red" and Judy (Ayers) Summers. Kevin attended Argonaut High School and graduated in 1992. Upon his graduation, Kevin joined the Ione Fire Department and worked with the Ione Fire Department until 2011 when his grave disease of Multiple Sclerosis no longer allowed him the freedom of movement. During his years on the Ione Fire Department, he rarely missed a call. He earned the rank of Engineer and also earned his First Responder Card. The Fire department was a large part of Kevin's life and the fire service was his passion. Kevin was also a firefighter for Amador Fire Protection District and would go to different stations and provide coverage during low staff periods in the winter. Two of the highlights of his fire career were attending the set of Myth Busters where Ione Fire Department was assisting as well as being a member of numerous strike teams which helped fight fires in places as far as Los Angeles. Kevin also was interested in Law Enforcement and was very proud to follow in his father Red's footsteps, a former Ione Police Officer. He first was a dedicated volunteer beginning in 2000 for the city of Ione Police, in which he helped with traffic controls for parades or traffic accidents. In 2006 he was inducted as a Community Service Officer for the City of Ione. Kevin also worked in the same capacity with the City of Jackson. He served in these capacities from 2006 to 2011. One of his duties was traffic controller in Jackson and Ione, helping school children safely cross highways in heavy traffic areas. He was well known in this capacity, and when he became ill received numerous cards from the school children. Some of Kevin's other interests included the outdoors life of hunting deer and turkey. He had great pride in owning his own quad all-terrain vehicle and enjoyed riding it in the hills outside of Ione. Kevin had an extensive patch collection and enjoyed a yearly white-tail deer calendar. Kevin had a great sense of humor and liked to pull pranks on his fellow friends. Despite the fact he was a prankster, he was very helpful, caring, honest, and honorable. Despite the struggles with his illness he was a person whose personality beamed and was full of life. Kevin is survived by his mother Judy (Ayers) Summers Rocke and his brother David Summers, David's wife Amy (Smith) Summers, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kevin is preceded in death by his father William "Red" Summers, who passed in 1990 and his step-father Gary W. Rocke, Sr who passed in 2015. There will be a public viewing on Thursday November 16 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson CA. The service will be held Friday November 17, 2017 at 11 am at Daneri Mortuary. Interment will be held following the service at Ione Public Cemetery. A reception will be held following the services at Ione Memorial Hall (VFW Hall). All are invited to share in the meal.
