Dennis Charles Hanson, 63, of West Point, CA. passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 @ Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas, after a long fight with colon cancer. Dennis was a fire suppression captain with CAL FIRE. He was on active duty when his illness began. Dennis was born in Santa Maria, CA on May 10, 1949. He was the son of Charles James Hanson and Lorice Halseth (Clark). Dennis attended San Bernardino Valley College where he met Valerie Reichardt. They then went to San Jose State University and were married on December 31, 1972. Dennis graduated in 1976 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. Dennis worked at Books Inc., in San Jose for 14 years as the store manager before moving to West Point in 1986. Dennis began working for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) in August of 1987 as a seasonal fire fighter working his way to Captain in 2001. He was also an instructor of CPR, First Aid, First Responders and EMT's. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, cabinet making, fishing and being with his ever faithful companion Guthrie. Dennis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Valerie Reichardt Hanson, daughter Mary Hanson, grandson Gage all of West Point; mother Lorice Halseth of Railroad Flat and brother Dr. Gary Hanson of Pennsylvania, brother in laws Dennis Reichardt, Deputy Chief San Bernardino City Fire Retired and John Reichardt. Celebration of Life will be on Saturday October 27 @ The West Point Community Church in West Point at 22264 Highway 26, at 11:30 a.m. Reception will follow at the West Point Community Hall across the street. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com and signing a guest book. If you desire to send flowers, they would be appreciated in conjunction with the memorial service.
