Ernest (Ernie) Lee Cain passed on from this life surrounded by those he loved, on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:30 pm in Jackson, California at the age of 73. He is survived by his devoted wife Joyce Cain of Jackson, his son, Curtis Cain of Lathrop, and daughter, Jill Cain of Elk Grove, California. His loving mother, Glendene Cain of Galt, his sister's Ramona Krewson and Bobbi Lamb of Galt, California, his brother's Roy Cain of Lockeford, and Larrie Cain and sister-in-law, Carol Cain of Herald, California. He also leaves behind his three beloved granddaughters, Justine Marie, Kayla Nicole and Lauren Olivia Cain. Ernie, the third of five children and oldest son, was born on September 25, 1938 in McCrory, Arkansas. The Cain family settled in Galt, California in 1950, where Ernie attended Galt Grammar and Galt High School, graduating class of 1957. After high school, he enlisted in the National Guard and served his country for three years. Ernie met his sweetheart, Joyce Dutton of Lodi, California while in high school. They were married on September 26, 1959 and were blessed with over 52 years of marriage. Ernie was employed by the Continental Baking Company, the makers of Wonder Bread, for 28 years retiring in 1995. He served as the Director of Basketball for 35 years, and Director of Softball for over 25 years for the City of Jackson's Recreation League. He was active in the Jackson's Lions Club, the Jackson Quarterback Club, and was a devoted San Francisco 49er and University of Oregon "Ducks" fan. Ernie was a regular at Mel and Faye's Diner in Jackson where his bride still works after 30 years where he enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Ernie loved people, sports and always had a smile and kind word to say. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and his 14 year faithful pet, "Sparky" who adored him. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Daneri Mortuary Chapel, 415 Broadway in Jackson, California, with the burial immediately following, at Sunset View Cemetery, 10200 State Highway 88 in Jackson, California. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lions Eye Foundation, P.O. Box 64, Jackson, CA 95642.
