Shelly Powers
November 1st, 2011
Born July 14, 1970, St. Paul, MN, passed away in Santa Barbara, CA on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011. Shelly courageously battled with the most rare (and always terminal) form of breast cancer, referred to as Inflammatory Breast Cancer, throughout the past year. A private service was held at sunset on the Wharf in Carpenteria, officiated by Shelly's loving spiritual care counselor, Reverend Laura Mancuso. As per Shelly's wishes, her ashes were spread in the ocean among the dolphins which she felt a "special bond" with. She is survived by her mother Susan Bear of St. Paul, MN, her father John Bear and wife Tracy of Solvang, CA., aunts and uncles of MN, Larry Gamst and wife Antonella, Paul Gamst and wife Wendy, Kim (Gamst) Foley and husband Mike, Jim Bear, Barbara (Bear) Crandall and husband Doug, Debra Bear Smith and husband Mark, Peggy Bear and many cousins. She was preceded in death by grandparents Helen & Lathum Bear, Eugene and Lorraine Gamst, Uncle Bruce Bear, and Uncle Jeff Gamst. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Santa Barbara or The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation, located in Hermosa Beach, CA. Shelly's family would like to extend special recognition and appreciation for the love and support Shelly received from all of her caregivers affiliated with The County of Santa Barbara ADMHS ACT Team, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Hospice of Santa Barbara, Inc.
