Ruth Gorman
May 5th, 1923 - January 3rd, 2012
Jackson resident Ruth Louise Gorman died January 3, 2012 at Sutter Amador Hospital after a long illness. She was 88. Born in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph and Emma Chauvin, she was the 2nd eldest of six children. She moved to Oakland, California with her family during the Depression years of the 1930's. It was in Oakland that she met and married her husband of 56 years, Harry Donald Gorman. The couple had two children, Carol Ann and Stephen Michael. In 1966 the couple moved to Tuolumne County (which had been the family's favorite vacation destination) where they spent many years before relocating to Oakdale in 1994. In 2007 she moved to Jackson with her son Stephen and his wife Carol. Throughout her adult life she was the quintessential homemaker with a variety of interests and hobbies including crafts, knitting, trout fishing, camping, antiquing and gardening. During her final years, when her illness prevented her from most physical activities, she became a voracious reader. Mrs. Gorman is survived by her son Stephen of Jackson, her brother Jack of Walnut Creek, granddaughters Michelle and husband Ron Cesar of Fremont, Debby Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Rebecca and husband Bill Rodgers of Cedar Falls, Iowa, along with 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren. A graveside service in scheduled for 11 am Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sonora. Donations can be made to Amador Lifeline, 935 S. State Highway 49, Jackson, CA 95642.
