George was born in Dixon Illinois, September 3, 1916 to Nellie and William Kane, he had three brothers and one sister. He was raised in New York Cities "Hell's Kitchen", graduated from high school in 1935. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939 and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He served in the USMC as a Commissioned Warrant Officer until 1947. George married Victoria in between trains on September 14, 1941 while he was on his way overseas. Victoria gave birth to their son, Michael in 1943. George obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Kansas while running a gas station and a farm. They had three daughters, Kathleen, Suzanne, and Rita. In 1952 they moved to Aurora, Illinois where Victoria Jo was born. He worked for Western Electric and in 1962 moved the family to San Mateo. In 1977 he retired to Sutter Creek and bought property. At 64, he decided to take up a new adventure and planted, by hand, 5 acres of grapes. He could be seen working daily in his beloved vineyard by all who drove down Ridge Road. His passions included, fishing, stamp and coin collecting, photography, square dancing, rock hounding ,golfing, and gardening. George never met a stranger and always inspired you with his twinkling blue eyes and his great wit with words. He was preceded in death by Kathleen, Michael, and his beloved bride, Victoria. A devout catholic and a remarkable father. He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Leisz, Rita Allen, Joey Ouilhon; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. George always had a heart to help everyone he could and he always had a great joke to share! He will be sorely missed by all. He touched so many lives with those beautiful blue eyes. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, December 9 at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sutter Creek. Interment will be in the Jackson Catholic Cemetery .
