Paul Jay Nielsen
July 19th, 1947 - April 9th, 2023
July 19, 1947 - April 9, 2023 Paul was born in Logan, Utah to Jay and Shirley Nielsen on July 19, 1947. He was the first of four children. His early childhood days were in Spanish Fork, Utah, and in 1955, the family moved to Orem, where he went to schools in the Alpine School District (Hillcrest Elementary, Lincoln Junior High and Orem High School). While growing up, Paul enjoyed and played all sports, with baseball being a favorite. He also enjoyed fishing, and hunting big and upland game with his father and relatives. He enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles. Paul graduated from Orem High School in 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from California State College, San Francisco and then a Master of International Management degree from American Graduate School of International Management. In 1969, Paul married Donna May Johnson and they were married for 53 years. They had one son, Nick Nielsen. Paul enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending many hours coaching baseball and riding dirt bikes with Nick. He also enjoyed being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Paul’s outgoing personality and his ability to craft a compelling story helped him become a successful salesman in the communication and material handling industries. Paul passed away in Elk Grove, California on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, from long-lasting effects of a stroke that he suffered in 2016. He is survived by Donna, Wilton, CA, son, Nick Nielsen (Marissa), Wilton, CA, and grandchildren, Cole Nick Nielsen, and Paisley Marie Nielsen. Sister: Ruth Ann Nielsen, Orem, Brothers: Dean Nielsen (Lynne), Lindon, Utah, Ray Nielsen, (Judy), Aloha, OR. Paul's family would like to express their love and appreciation to the owners and staff of Yellow Orchid (formerly St. Anthony's) residential care home. Their loving friendship with Paul and their dedication to serving him truly blessed his life and was of great comfort to his family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made to a non-profit organization co-founded by Paul’s wife, Donna. (ArmInArmOutreach.org)
