George Francis Laine, III
February 4th, 1947 - July 4th, 2023
George Francis Laine III passed away suddenly on July 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by family at the age of 76. George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet Laine; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel, and Rosa Laine; his grandchildren, Andrea, and Danny Laine, of Elk Grove, CA. He is also survived by his two brothers and sister, William Laine (Debbie) of Henderson, NV, Jeffrey Laine (Kim) of Oakley, CA, and Diana Welsh (Darryl) of Newbury Park, CA. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. George moved to Ione from San Mateo, CA in 1976 to build the cable television company (Pacific Coast Cable Company) and later met Janet at the local donut shop (Barbour’s Donuts). In addition to owning Pacific Coast Cable Company, he also worked for Kirkwood and managed their Powerhouse. He worked for SMUD at Rancho Seco for several years as an electrician until its closing and later rejoined SMUD in Sacramento as a sub-station foreman. He retired from SMUD in 2014. George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He dearly loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards, watching the news, sitting at Subway, going to Highway House for breakfast, going to the gym and his boxing class at Mueller’s. George was also a member of Cornerstone Church in Ione. After going to Tahiti for his honeymoon in 1982, he always wanted to return, and just last July, he and his wife were able to re-visit the beauty of the Island of Tahiti for 16 days to celebrate their 40th anniversary. He was loved by many, and his passing is a devastating loss and tremendous shock, not only for the family, but everyone that knew him. He will be sorely missed. A funeral service will be held at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, CA on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. His burial will be for family members only at the Ione Public Cemetery in Ione, CA. There will be a reception following the conclusion of services.
