Edythe Sarah Kirchmaier
January 22nd, 1908 - October 24th, 2015
Edythe Sarah Kirchmaier born January 22,1908 in Dayton, Ohio, to Horace P. King and Clara King, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 24,2015 at the age of 107, surrounded by her family, at Serenity House in Santa Barbara. Edythe graduated from Ohio State University and went on to Graduate School at University of Chicago. She went to work for the City of Chicago, as a Supervisor in Social work, where she met the love of her life, Joe Kirchmaier, who was also a University of Chicago graduate. They were married in 1938 and had two children Raymond King and Mary Barbara. They bought a home in Santa Barbara where she resided until her death. Edythe and Joe traveled extensively around the United States, before spending 3 years in Taiwan as missionaries for Direct Relief. They volunteered at the headquarters located in Goleta for over 40 years, which gave them great pleasure. Edythe and Joe were long time members of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, since the 1940s, developing many life long friends. Edythe was a caring and compassionate person, and always giving to those in need as evidenced by the many visitors that came to her bedside in the final days of her life. Edythe was passionate about her family and friends, loving consistently and unconditionally. She was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Edythe is survived by her son Raymond (Mary), daughter Mary (Paul), grandchildren Gina, Jef, Greg (Kristen), Becki(Brian), Dan(Melissa), Melissa(Jeremy), and 17 great grandchildren, The family would like to thank the staff at Serenity House for the special care they gave her during her last days. In celebration of her Life, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 28, at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church on Constance St, in Santa Barbara, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Direct Relief, 275y La Patera Lane, Goleta,Ca. 93117
