Margaret Skeen passed peacefully in her home on May 21 at the age of 90. Born November 2, 1927 in Burbank, CA she moved to Santa Barbara at an early age. Margaret attended local schools and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1945. She married Earl Smith Rodgers in 1948 and had three children prior to Earl’s death in1955. Margaret’s greatest joy was her children and she raised them in Toro Canyon always loving and guiding them along their paths to adulthood. In 1962, Margaret married Robert Clyde Skeen. They lived together at the family home in Toro Canyon. Robert preceded Margaret in death in 1980. Margaret is survived by her three devoted children, Douglas Skeen and his wife Rosalyn, Phillip Skeen and his wife Lillian, and Alice Berg and her husband Steve, her brothers Bert DeYoung, Gerry DeYoung. and sisters Midge Moore and Pauline Pike. Margaret is also survived by grandchildren Raytchell Cosentino, Michael McCann, Hank Rayner and Leah Newell. After a retail career at Robinson’s and I Magnin, Margaret was a volunteer for Adventures in Caring, Hospice, Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria and Cottage Hospital in Solvang. The last 16 years of her life Margaret lived with her daughter and son in law, Alice and Steve in Solvang, CA. Our family sincerely thanks the caregivers from 1Heart and the nurses and doctors at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital MICU, and the nurses and staff of Santa Barbara Visiting Nurses and Hospice for their excellent and loving care. A celebration of life will be held on June 23rd at 4:00pm for family and friends at the Doll Pond, 583 North Refugio Road, Santa Ynez. Margaret would be honored to have donations to Santa Barbara Visiting Nurses and Hospice, 509 East Montecito Street, Suite 200, Santa Barbara, CA 93103 [email protected] or the charity of your choice.
