Elsie Olive Zook
August 19th, 1913 - September 23rd, 2013
Elsie Olive Sutherland-Zook, 100, of Salinas, passed away on September 23, 2013 at Katherine Healthcare. She was born on August 19, 1913 in Dewey County, Seiling, Oklahoma and moved to California in 1939, where she resided in Salinas since 1942. Elsie was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star, El Gablian Chapter #574 and the Reveille Chapter #47, OES of Salinas. Elsie leaves behind her son, Jim (Dixie) Sutherland of Butte, MT; step-son, Gordon (Jane) Zook of Salinas; granddaughters, Anna-Marie Bauer, Andrea Lachos and Kim Fulton all of Salinas and Gina Sutherland of Fair Oaks; seven great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephes and other loving relatives. Elsie is preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Sutherland in 1954 and Melvin F. Zook in March of 2004. Visitation will take place Friday, September 27, 2013 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 11am at the Healey Mortuary Chapel 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. Salinas, CA 93901. In Elsie's memory, donations may be made to one's favorite charity

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
