Elizabeth Henriques
November 17th, 1924 - January 27th, 2014
Elizabeth Blach Henriques, 89, longtime resident of Salinas, passed away peacefully at Katherine Healthcare, surrounded by family on January 27, 2014 in Salinas. She was born on November 17, 1924 in San Francisco, California and remained there during the 1920s. Elizabeth grew up in a family of 12 children. Her parents moved to Los Altos in 1930s where her early childhood, teen and young adult life were spent. Elizabeth attended and graduated nurses school in WWII. She didn't enter the service in WWII as a nurse since the war had ended. She Married in the mid 1950s. She didn't pursue a nursing career, but became a housewife. She began a large family of seven children; 5 boys and 2 girls in Lake Tahoe, CA. She moved the family to Fremont, CA in 1960s and then later moved to Santa Cruz in early 1970s. In 1970, she and her husband started a family owned and operated pizza parlor. Parent's sold the business in late 1970s when her husband retired. Elizabeth worked at Dominican Hospital in 1980s in Central Supply (sterilizing operating equipment) then as a hospital housekeeper. She was a very well-loved employee there. Elizabeth retired in the late 1980s. Elizabeth liked dancing, music, reading, camping and all the family events. She especially likes the yearly Blach Picinics (i.e. annual family reunion of her brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families). Elizabeth is survived by her children, Luke Henriques, Elizabeth Henriques, Matthew Henriques, Georgina Jones, Mark Henriques, Arthur Henriques, Jr., and John Henriques brothers and sisters, Dick, Alan, Joan and Robert "Bob" Blach grandchildren, Adrienne, Janet, Samuel, Melissa, Annamae and Sarah She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Henriques brothers and sisters, John, Patricia, Michael, Donald, Georgina and Jim Blach and Mary Marquez Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 7pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11am at Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church 320 E. Laurel Drive Salinas, CA 93906. Elizabeth will be laid to rest with her late husband, Arthur Henriques on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 W. McCabe Rd. Gustine, CA 95322.

He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
