James Reavis
September 16th, 1929 - November 15th, 2014
James "Jim" Forrest Reavis, after enjoying 85 years of life, Jim Reavis passed away peacefully at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital on November 15, 2014. He was surrounded by those he loved and who loved him in his last days. Born September 16, 1929 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to James and Oklahoma Reavis, Jim had full life. He was a beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Friend. He was a hunter and a fisherman. He loved the outdoors, being with his friends and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a deacon at Hebbron Heights Church in Salinas, before it became Echoes From Calvary, and continued to serve as deacon there as well. He was proud to be an American, and served in the United States Air Force. He followed in the footsteps of his Heavenly Father, He was a carpenter…and a good one! Jim partnered with his Brother Lewis Reavis and Brother-In-Law, Joe Williams in Reavis and Williams Builders. They worked as a team starting in the early 1960’s into the 1970’s. Jim continued building and selling homes in Salinas for several years. He eventually formed his own real estate company in the late 1970’s, Reavis Real Estate and Construction and continued building and selling homes into the Mid 1990’s. For almost 40 years Jim was instrumental in helping young couples achieve the American Dream of owning their first home in Monterey County. He also served the Salinas community for over 35 years, on the Salinas Union High District Board. Jim was passionate about representing what the community’s views, of what students should know and be able to do. Jim took pride in ensuring that Education for the Young Adults was not a line item on the Agenda, he made sure it was the agenda. Jim is survived by his Daughter Anita Reavis, Grand Daughter Tara Case (Johnny), Grandson Brandon Robinson, Great Grandson’s Zachary Robinson and Tegan Case and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Jim was preceded in death by the Love of His Life, Margie Nell Reavis, his wife for over fifty years and will be laid to rest next to her. He is also preceded in death by his Brothers, Lewis Reavis and Ira Reavis, and Sisters Bertha Pitchford and Florence Holland. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19th, 2014 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. Graveside Services will take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery on Thursday, November 20th at 1:30pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Echoes From Calvary Church on Thursday, November 20th at 3:00pm.

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
