Joseph "Joe" Jimenez
August 21st, 1944 - January 15th, 2015
Joseph "Joe" Torres Jimenez, 70, lifelong resident of Castroville, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born on August 21, 1944 in Watsonville, CA to Antonio and Elena de Jesus Jimenez. He retired from Salinas Valley Wax Paper Company in 2008 after more than 30 years of service. He also worked at Boggiatto Packing in Castroville. Joe was the youngest of twelve children. He loved his family, community, and church, Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He had a passion for traveling, and made many trips to Arizona, New Jersey, and Mexico. He loved spending time with family, listening to mariachi music, and drinking champagne. He had the ability to light up a room with his funny jokes and hilarious stories. Joe loved to laugh and bring laughter to others. With his sense of humor and love for people he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Polly K. Jimenez of Castroville; his daughter, Elena Jimenez, and granddaughter, Jovana Escobar of Van Nuys; four brothers, Reymundo (Rachel) Jimenez of Castroville, Fernando (Sofia) Jimenez of Salinas, John (Ninfa) Jimenez of Salinas, and Frank (Esther) Jimenez of Castroville; and four sisters Angelina (Ernie) Vasquez, Mary Marquez, Frances Torres, and Sally Jimenez, all of Castroville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Francisca Arceo, and brothers, Antonio “Tony” Jimenez and Ramon Jimenez. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA 93905. Rosary vigil to take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 11140 Preston St., Castroville, CA 95012. Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. Burial to follow services at the Castroville District Cemetery in Moss Landing.

He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area.
