February 2nd, 1927 - August 31st, 2015
Michael B. Batala, 88 of Salinas passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 31, 2015. Mike was born February 2, 1927 in Baguio City, Philippines. He was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class and served his country for 24 years. He has been a resident of Salinas for 42 years. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Teresita Batala, his daughter Elbina Rafizadeh, his son Michael B. Batala Jr., sisters Odama Malateo, Helen Tade, Marina Lapicto, and Evelyn Guidagen. He also leaves his grandson Omeed Rafizadeh, numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. Visitation will be held at the Healey Mortuary, Monday, September 7, 2015 from 1 - 9 PM. The Rosary will be recited at the Mortuary Chapel, Monday at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Madonna Del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr., Salinas, CA Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93906

He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
