Ivan Matthew Seppala passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023, at his home in Pleasant Hill, CA. He was 89. Ivan was born in Seattle, WA. He was raised in the Kent/Seattle area, served in the Army, and attended Pacific Lutheran University. He went to work for Standard Oil/Chevron as a systems analyst, then met and married his forever love, Iris, in 1962. Ivan and his family, including 4 children, moved to California in 1968. Ivan and Iris lived in Martinez and Clayton for over 40 years, with their last 4 years together spent in Ripon and then Pleasant Hill. Ivan is survived by Iris, his wife of 61 years, and four children; Janette Sofia Seppala Cariad, Maila (Dean) Fredriks, Scott Seppala, and Doyle Seppala. He dedicated himself to faithfully serving God, loving his wife, and providing for his family. Although significant heart issues forced him to retire early from Chevron, he continued as a pastor well into his 80s.
