Elena Jane Ballock

Elena Ballock lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer on June 6, 2014. She was born to Helen and Charles Middleton in San Francisco on April 22, 1953. Elena was an inspiring woman. She was intelligent, tenacious, creative, and hard-working. She was passionate and fought for what was right and just. Her best quality, though, was how deeply she loved both the world and the people around her. Elena carried that trait through everything she did. She was a natural care taker in both her personal and professional life. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mark Ballock. Her parents, Charles and Helen Middleton, her children, Matt (Amy) Ballock, Carmen (Michael) Ballock-Bunt, and Kevin Ballock, her four beautiful grandchildren, Chad, Caleb, Delaney, and Elijah, as well as her siblings, Melinda (Richard) Price, Marianne (Steven) Simmons, and Charles (Suzette) Middleton. Elena was an Emergency Room nurse for 37-years at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, CA. She worked hard to advocate for both her patients and her fellow nurses. Elena was so passionate about advocating for the nurses that she eventually became a CNA Nurse Representative. For the last 20-years, Elena dedicated herself not only to her family and to her work, but also to her art. She was a talented California oil painter. Her work has been displayed in the San Diego Museum of Fine Art and in various galleries from coast-to-coast. In Elenas words, "Art is not something that I simply like to do. It is not something that I simply want to do. Art is a part of me." It was her form of self-expression. Elenas other passions included gardening, politics, world events, gourmet cooking, and world travel. Elenas memorial service will be held on June 14, 2014 at 2 pm.
