Henry 'Hank' Visscher Th.B. M.A. Resident of Concord December 31, 1930 December 9, 2016 Henry Visscher passed away peacefully at home after a brave battle with cancer. He touched many lives with his gentle, loving spirit and friendly nature. Henry, known as Hank, grew up on a farm in Platte, South Dakota the oldest of five children. During his life he lived in South Dakota, Canada, Kansas, Michigan and California. He graduated from Calvin College and Seminary with a theology degree and JFK with a masters in Psychology. Along with counseling, he enjoyed the connections he made while officiating 2500 weddings and 1000 funerals. Hank is survived by his loving wife Judi, three children Deanna Tuohy, Greg Visscher, and Kristin Burns and step daughter Laurel Hansen. He is also survived by his four siblings Sherman, Albertha, Clara and Elmer. His love and sense of humor will always be remembered and cherished. Hank was blessed with many talents and interests. Growing up on the farm, he learned carpentry, cement work, pitched hay, milked cows, and loved hunting pheasants and rabbits. As an athlete, he excelled at basketball and track, participating in hurdles, high jump, and pole vault. His love of basketball continued as he followed his beloved Warriors. Bocce was his sport of choice in his later years. On his list of talents was woodworking and creating his wood cities. He loved projects and was known for being an "inventive fix it man". His friends and family loved his humor and his enjoyment of his own practical jokes. His friends and family often teased him right back about his closet full of trousers, shirts, shoes and sport coats for "every" occasion. He was known for his penny pinching ways, often filling his cart at the 99 cent store. Most of all he will be remembered for his love of people! A celebration service will be held on Sunday, January 22 at 2:00 PM at Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Platte Health Center Avera" in Platte South Dakota or "Monument Impact" in Concord California.
