Gayle Alston Chapman

Gayle Alston Chapman passed away on April 15, 2018, in Walnut Creek, California following a short illness. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 30, 1932, to Ray Lester Alston and Hannah Pearl Southwick. Gayle was married in the Salt Lake Temple to her sweetheart, Ramon E. "Bud" Chapman on April 12, 1951. Her loving husband preceded her in death in 2015, as did her parents, and her great-grandson Max. Gayle is survived by her three children - daughter Connie L. Hoglund (William), and sons Richard A. (Lynne) and Alan E. (Teresa); 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as her three siblings Joann Killpack (Larry-deceased), Harold R. Alston (Patsy), Celia A. Cutler (Frank). Gayle grew up in Salt Lake City and was a graduate of South High School (Class of 1949). She attended the University of Utah and studied commercial art, before attending the LDS Business College. She subsequently worked for Twentieth Century Fox Film Distribution in Salt Lake City, as she supported her husband and family as Bud finished engineering school at the University of Utah. The family subsequently moved to Washington (Mercer Island) and California (Santa Maria and Hacienda Heights). Following retirement, Bud & Gayle moved first to Antioch, and finally to Concord, California. In 1970 Gayle went to work at the Public Health Foundation of Los Angeles County as a secretary. Her responsibilities grew over time and for most of her career there, she was the corporations Managing Director. She guided the company as it grew to over 1500 employees, as they administered multi-million-dollar public health programs, including assisting women, infant, children (WIC Program) throughout LA County. She retired in 1992 after 23 years of service. Gayle and Bud were privileged to travel much around the world, visiting every continent, and sharing many happy memories with family, and with friends made across the globe. As a result, they gained a deep appreciation for the diverse peoples and cultures of the world. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life, Gayle served wherever asked in the church. She was blessed with the gift of loving others which resulted in many wonderful friends who felt more like family. She was a true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and will be remembered for her radiant, friendly smile, fashion style, her bottomless jar of peanut M&Ms, and her love of the color red. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11am, with a public viewing from 9:30am to 10:45am that morning, at the LDS chapel located at 1590 Denkinger Rd., Concord, CA. Interment will be the following Saturday at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
