Oak Park Hills Chapel
Joan Catherine Jacobs
March 5th, 1934 - November 13th, 2022
Joan Catherine Jacobs Resident of Pleasant Hill, CA Born 3/5/34; Died 11/13/22 Born in Akron, Ohio, Joan moved to California in the early 1960s where she met her second husband, Fenton Jacobs. Together they had two sons Gregory of Pleasant Hill and Barry of Pittsburg. She also had a daughter, Brenda Breer, from a previous marriage. She raised her family in Lafayette before moving to Pleasant Hill in her later years. Joan worked and volunteered at Planned Parenthood in Walnut Creek for over 25 years. She was a member of their local chapter for quite some time and served many years as an Auxiliary Board member. She had many dear friends in this group. They attended social functions and hosted several holiday parties. Sadly, many members have either passed away or moved out of the area. Joan was also a member of the Concord Pavilion Associates in the 1980s and was heavily involved in their fundraising events, including organizing their large, annual flea markets. In addition, Joan did some charity work for the American Cancer Society, volunteering in their Walnut Creek Thrift Shop. Joan traveled to Hawaii a few times and loved relaxing on their many pristine beaches, especially on Maui and Kauai. We would also spend a summer vacation in Lake Tahoe nearly every year. She very much enjoyed going to the San Francisco Ballet as well as many other plays and musicals in the City. When younger she enjoyed tap dancing and was a member of a tap group in Orinda for many years. She liked watching old movies and musicals from Hollywoods golden age. She was an avid reader with some of her favorite authors being Fannie Flagg, John Grisham and James Patterson. Some of her favorite musical artists included The Carpenters, Neil Sedaka, Johnny Mathis and Barry Manilow. She listened to their music regularly and attended many concerts when they appeared locally. She is survived by her three children Brenda, Gregory and Barry as well as one grandson, Brian Breer. There is no public service planned. There will be a small, private family gathering. Private family services will be held
