Sally Ann Kennedy
February 3rd, 1931 - January 8th, 2021
Sally Ann (Boynton) Kennedy passed away peacefully at home, January 8, 2021, less than a month before her 90th birthday. She was born February 3, 1931, to Julius E. Boynton and Sarah (Sally) A. Baker, in Bakersfield, CA. Sally spent her younger years living with her parents in Arizona before returning to Bakersfield where she attended high school and eventually met and married Dodd (Donald) Alan Kennedy. Sally and Don moved to Martinez, CA where they built a house on an acre of land to raise their children. Sally spent the rest of her life in this home she loved, growing vegetables in a large garden and beautiful flowers in the yard, enjoying the abundant wildlife that frequented the property, including deer, turkeys, birds, squirrels, and taking in and caring for stray cats that made her house their home. Sallys life was filled with love and service for her family, God, and others. Nothing, other than her faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, was more important to her than her family. She lovingly raised her children, providing constant support and a listening ear. Sally enjoyed cooking and baking (she was known for her chocolate chip cookies), even when she went back to work outside the home in 1970, eventually becoming a manager for a stationary store and then working in a medical office. Sally served others throughout her life as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her kindness and love was felt by all who knew and associated with her. Family history, reading and music were some of Sallys other interests. She found great joy in listening to the piano and enjoyed poetry, even writing some poems for her family. Sally always kept a journal and organized family photos, including those of her ancestors, which is a great blessing to her children and other posterity. She loved having family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting her as well as attending, and at times organizing, family reunions. Sally has been reunited with husband, Don, and son, Gary. Her other children are Susan Cottam (Grant, deceased), Janine Smith (Rodger), Keith (Barbara) and Kathleen Pedersen (Marvin). She has nine grandchildren; Sean Cottam, Leah Cottam, Sarah Donato, Rachel Cottam, Matthew Smith, Sean Smith, Shalene Matthews, Bryn Pedersen and Will Pedersen and 11 great-grandchildren. We will miss her greatly but are comforted in our knowledge that she is in a place of peace and love and that we will be reunited with her someday. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Memory Gardens, Concord, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a local animal shelter or your favorite charity.
