In Loving Memory of Roy Whiteaker (October 8, 1939 - April 25, 2024)Roy Whiteaker, a dedicated public servant, and beloved former Sheriff of Sutter County, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old.Born on October 8, 1939, in the town of Calico Rock, Arkansas, Roy was the cherished son of Corbin and Irene Whiteaker. From a young age, Roy displayed a strong sense of duty and integrity traits that would define his illustrious career in law enforcement.After graduating from high school, Roy answered the call to serve his country and joined the US Army and was stationed in Panama. He not only served his nation with honor but also found the love of his life, Gladys Whiteaker, whom he married. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Janet Tracy, and Jim Whiteaker.Following his military service, Roy and Gladys settled in Yuba City, California, where Roy embarked on a remarkable journey in law enforcement. His unwavering commitment to justice and his dedication to serving his community led him to become the Sheriff of Sutter County in 1971.During his two-decade tenure as Sheriff, Roy Whiteaker earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and constituents alike. He was known for his steadfast leadership, compassion for others, and unwavering commitment to upholding the law.Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, creating memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.Roy Whiteaker leaves behind a legacy of service, honor, and love that will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Gladys; his children, Janet (Joe Waggershauser) and Jim (Natalie); his brother, John Whiteaker (Mary); sister, Cheryl Downing (Ron); nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a community that he served with distinction.Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Corbin and Irene Whiteaker; his twin brother, Troy Whiteaker; and his brothers, Charles and Ron Whiteaker.A funeral service to celebrate the remarkable life of Roy Whiteaker will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church on May 17, 2024, at 11am. Reception to immediately follow in the St. Isidore Multipurpose room.
