Joan DelSanto, age 67, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at home with her wife, Ruth and step-daughter, Laina at her side. Joan was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on July 21, 1947. Joan spent most of her youth in Bloomingburg, NY but as a young adult traveled from New York to California. Joan lived in Denver, CO, Los Alamos, NM, San Francisco, CA, Albuquerque, NM and Galveston, TX. She spent the last 12 years of her life in Albuquerque so her wife Ruth could be close to her family. Joan was preceded in death by her grandmother, Adelaide Miracle; mother, Elizabeth Johnson; sisters, Jean Roe and Judy Dewitt; and brothers, Danny and Carl Wickman. Joan is survived by her loving wife, Ruth Haney; step-daughter, Laina Medlin of Albuquerque, NM; brother, John DelSanto and wife, Betsy; daughters, Greta and Cindy of Calettsburg, KY; sisters, Angela Enright and husband, Jimmy and son, Johnny of Bloomingburg, NY, Betsey Treutlein and husband, John and daughter, Mary Beth; and sons, Billy and Danny of Hugueot, NY; brothers, Frank Johnson and wife, Cathy and son, Francis of Watsontown, PA, Tom Johnson and daughters, Amanda, Kaylee, Jessica and Victoria of Bloomingburg, NY; niece, Melodie Gutkaiss and husband, Tom, daughter, Shaina Jean and son, Tommy of Newburg, NY; nephew, Gary Edwards and son, Gary of Montgomery, NY. Joan and Ruth shared their life for 37 years and New Mexico allowed them to marry last year. This is a poem Joan wrote many years ago that Ruth recently found and would like to share. "We've done it Our Way We've trusted in the reason of our hearts instead of following the well-worn path and relying on the tried and true. We've followed our instincts knowing that what's rights for everyone else may not be right for us. We've believed in each other and in the power of love to take us in the direction of our dreams. We've done it our way and it's been the best way for us. I love you and I always will. A private memorial will be held for immediate family only. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE (505) 764-9663.
