Elias "Toad" Montoya

Elias (Toad) Montoya, age 88, a life long resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Mr. Montoya is survived by his wife of forty four years, Virginia Montoya; sons, Roman and Orlando Montoya; sisters, Elena Rico-Crawford, Lillian Salazar, and Priscilla Miller; brother-in-law, Edward Chavez, sister-in-law, Rebecca Rodriguez and husband, Fabian; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Theresa Montoya; brother, Orlando Montoya; sisters, Helen Cortez, Edwina Gomez, Marcella Duran, and Emma Chavez. Mr. Montoya was born February 18, 1928 and raised in the Barelas community. Elias was a graduate of El Rito Normal School, Class of 1947 and enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from El Rito. He was later drafted by the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant. A Memorial Rosary and Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 9:00 AM, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 309 Stover Ave. SW. Interment of cremains will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Luncheon following burial will be held at American Legion Post 69, 9000 4th St. NW. All family and friends are invited to attend.
