Joan Brewer
July 7th, 1923 - April 24th, 2015
Joan Marie (Plante) Brewer, 91, of Longmont, CO, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at her home in Longmont. Joan was born July 7, 1923 in the Twin Cities area, Minnesota into a family of 10 other siblings. While growing up in Minnesota she was a department store gift wrapper and clothing model. On June 27, 1949 in Minnesota, she married Jay Paul Brewer and later moved to Longmont, CO. She was a wife and mother to 10 children, grandmother of 31, great grandmother of 66 and great-great grandmother to 8; a total of 105 grandchildren who she dearly loved. Joan joined the St. John Catholic Church where she was an active member of the choir for 62 years and enjoyed singing unto the Lord. She participated in the Longmont Chorale concerts singing the Messiah and at other holiday events. Aside from being a wife and homemaker, she was a seamstress for family and friends. Joan starting sewing baby quilts “Made with Grandma’s Love” for her grandchildren. She collected all types of bells, angles, and statues of the Virgin Mary. Later in life she took up “Word Search” games and enjoyed watching “American Funniest Videos” and participating in answering “Jeopardy” questions from her comfy living room chair. Joan never obtained a drivers license, so she walked everywhere, meeting many townsfolk along her way throughout town. May of her walks ended up in thrift stores since she was such a thrifty lady and would make a penny go far. Joan enjoyed her large family through Sunday dinners, large gatherings including Christmas where families would join together, filling the entire house with presents and loved ones. Birthdays in the park were her special occasions and walls in her home were filled with family pictures as her treasures. She is survived by her children, Larry (Shelia) Knapp, Pauline (Dale Schroder) DeSha, Joette (Greg) Ross, Lynette McClain, Genevieve-Genni (Robert) Van Deest, Georgette (Russell) Twogood, Steve, (Jane) Brewer, Kevin (Sandy) Brewer and Dawnette (Jerry) Merrkatz; 31 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Brewer; oldest daughter Anita Lee; granddaughter, Monique Fuller and numerous brothers and sisters.
