Alice Mendoza Gutierrez

Alice Mendoza Gutierrez, aged 80, of Santa Fe, NM, passed away at her residence on Monday, July 17th. She was born August 5th, 1936, in Upland, California, to the late Ramon and Julia Mendoza, the youngest in a family of 14 brothers and sisters. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1975 and Master of Education in 1980 both from La Verne College. From her time picking fruit during her youth, to working in a hospital, through owning her own beauty salon and finally enjoying many years as an elementary school teacher, Alice is a model of resilience and strength. Her love of travel and food took her through every state in the US and to her motherland of Mexico. Alice's love of reading led her to many more places. She was a storyteller and story maker. Her cooking was delectable. Her laugh was a treasure. Ultimately, Alice's true gift was her positive impact on the family and friends she held dear, causing them all to be better for her knowing her. Alice is survived by her husband of 53 years, John; her son, Mario; her daughter-in-law, Melanie; her granddaughter, Rosario; and her sisters, Rosie and Sue. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Santuario de Guadalupe on Monday, July 24th at 10:00 am with a rosary preceding.
