Elkanah Samuel Hurdle was born October 10th,1942 in Christ Church Barbados to Alice Ursula Gittens and Noel Everton Hurdle. He was the 6th of eight children who included, Norma, Angela, Joyce, Elsie, Eudene, Joan and Paul. Known to family and friends as “Sam”, he attended secondary school in Barbados where he received nine (9) general certificates in various studies, Sam immigrated to England in the early 60’s and enlisted in the British Royal Marines. In 1970 Sam married Carol H. Hendricks and together they had one child, Karen Deborah Hurdle In 1978 Sam and Karen emigrated to the United States and lived in Brooklyn New York. He married Fredericka Clarke and created a blended family with stepson Ryan Clarke. Many years later, Sam remarried for a third time. He met Novia McGregor and they got married. Sam worked at Verizon Telecommunication until his retirement where he moved from Brooklyn, New York to Ocala, Florida with his wife Novia. Sam earned his Master’s degree in Christian Theology and spent his retirement on the greens playing golf. Sam passed away April 5th, 2023 and is survived by his wife Novia, his daughter Karen and his stepson Ryan Clarke.
