Eugene D. Lucero

Eugene D. Lucero, aged 84, of Santa Fe passed peacefully in his sleep on May 1. Gene will be remembered for his practical jokes, his kind heart, his life stories, and his green thumb. He was preceded in death by his parents Augustin and Cleotilde Lucero; brother Frank "Pops" Lucero; son Andrew Lucero; grandson Luke Cisneros; and great-granddaughter Nivea Fresquez.  Gene attended El Colegio de San Miguel in Santa Fe and had fond memories of playing Horsemen basketball and football. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, walking, going for rides, cooking, gardening, and going to the casino. He had a long career in law enforcement and retired with pride in 2003 from the City of Santa Fe Police. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; children Lorraine (Bob), Tino, Gene, Dominic (Pam), and Joaquin (Nicolette); step-children Eddie (Jacqueline), Jon (Cyndie), and Adrianna (Gary); 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Santa Maria de la Paz Parish. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, May 7 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 8 at 10:30 am with burial and military honors to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Arrangements entrusted to: Riverside Funeral Home of Santa Fe 3232 Cerrillos Road Santa Fe, NM 87507 (505)395-9150.
