George Arturo Gutierrez
February 22nd, 1948 - April 5th, 2019
George Arturo Gutierrez was born in Rowe/Pecos on February 22, 1948 to Emilio and Rosarito Gutierrez. He attended Pecos High School and graduated in 1968. George passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 5, 2019 after battling a lengthy illness. A man known by many and loved by many more, George was always willing to lend a hand whenever and wherever he could. A total jokester, he wasn't afraid to share a laugh with you. If he teased you, it meant he liked you. Having grown up in Pecos to a large family, George learned the importance of hard work at an early age. After graduating from Pecos High School and spending a brief period in Denver, Colorado, he moved to Santa Fe where he has lived ever since. He worked in Los Alamos for 34 years as an electrician before finally retiring in 2012. He loved classic cars and even owned a classic himself that he always dreamed of restoring. He enjoyed Westerns and owned many novels he had read many times over – his favorite being by the author Louis L'amour. If you came to visit, you would usually find him sitting down to watch Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Family Feud or sports - usually basketball or baseball. To the very end, he was always supporting his hometown basketball team the Pecos Panthers. He enjoyed chatting about them, even if you didn't know what he was talking about. He loved Spanish music and would often sit and listen to it while he read the newspaper. When it came to meals, he loved chili, potatoes and beans above all else. If he had been allowed, he would have had it for every meal of every day. A man of few words, his family knew that he loved them in the things he did and the words he said. We love you and we'll meet again someday. You possessed a golden heart that no one could match. He is preceded in death by his wife Norma Gutierrez (Cantu), son George Gutierrez Jr.; Brothers Pablo, Ray, Vincent, Ruben, Robert, Michael and Jessie Gutierrez; Sister Anabel Quintana and parents Rosarito and Emilio Gutierrez. He is survived by his daughter Diane Gutierrez-Garcia (Alfred); Son Joseph Gutierrez (Cynthia); Grandchildren Michael, Desirae, Joey, Mikayla, Antonio, Nathanial and Bianca; Sisters Eleanor (Melva) Enriquez, Monica Vasquez, Lucy Favela and Lourdes DeLaTorre and brother Abe Gutierrez (Rosemarie) as well as many other relatives and friends. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 10:15 AM with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 1301 Osage Ave. Interment to follow the Mass at Rosario Cemetery with a reception to be held immediatley following the burial back at Lamy Hall at St. John the Baptist Church. Arrangements entrusted to the caring professionals of Riverside Funeral Home of Santa Fe 3232 Cerrillos Road (505) 395-9150
