Lizella, GA: Dr. Joe S. Andrews, 72, ascended to heaven Tuesday, June 1, 2004. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the United Evangelistic Church, 2411 Health Rd. in Macon. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park. Please join family and friends at the visitation at the church on Friday evening from 7 until 9 PM. Dr. Andrews, Brother Joe to most, was born in Macon to the late Rev. S.F. and Bessie Sawyer Andrews. He spent 53 years preaching the gospel to churches, camp meetings, and revivals throughout the country. He also led numerous Holy Land tours for those who wanted to walk where Jesus walked. One of his proudest moments was baptizing his family in the Jordan River. Brother Joe and his wife Wilma, co- created the passion play ?He Touched Me? that is still performing annually at Macon Evangelistic Church. He was the founder and pastor of United Evangelistic Church in Macon; and, for 42 years he was the former pastor of Macon Evangelistic Church. He was president of the International Evangelistic Association and was former president of the Southeastern Evangelistic Groups. Joe graduated from Lanier High School in 1950, attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and graduated from Mercer University in 1954. Dr. Andrews was also the former founder and headmaster for Chapel Hill Christian Academy. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Greene Andrews of Lizella; son, Joseph Andrews, Jr. of Lizella; daughter, Dawn Andrews Sharp of Warner Robins; sister, Phyllis A. Fretwell of Deland, FL; grandchildren, Jessica Brooke Sharp of Byron, Shea Paul Sharp of Atlanta, Brittaney Jade Andrews of Macon and Ashleigh Lauren Andrews of Macon; and a church full of beloved friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Brother Joe to the United Evangelistic Church Building Fund at 2411 Health Road, Macon, GA, 31206. Finishing the church was his last wish. If Joe were writing this, he?d want to tell you this one last time, ?I?ve just seen Jesus.? Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
