On August 24, 2020, our Lord called Maria home to her eternal resting place. A fervent Catholic, Maria patiently awaited His call, and He mercifully took her gently, but swiftly to abate her pain and suffering. In her home, surrounded by her children, Maria left her last breath on this earthly plane. Born in Ojinaga, Mexico on January 25, 1930, Maria and her siblings learned quickly the value of family. Having lost her mother, Rosaura, at the age of five, her father, Librado Solis, found no recourse but to return with his young family of six to the large city of Monterrey, Mexico where his mother and sisters could help him raise the children. However, the strain of growing in separate households would prove difficult. The result was that the oldest sister and one brother would go to work, and the other four would end up in an orphanage. Impoverished of certain resources, Maria and her siblings were enriched with a love for God and a love for learning. This is something that her husband would forever love and appreciate about Maria. After immigrating to the United States as a young teen with her father, three sisters and a brother, the family came to meet their grandmother, Rosaura's mother, Maria Valenzuela. They ended up in Lake Arthur – a small town in New Mexico – where she would eventually meet and marry Joe Porras. Joe and Maria were married 71 years before Joe was called by the Lord on December 2, 2018. They bore six children. One daughter, Anna, and one grandchild, Dolores, preceded them in death. Maria is survived by four daughters: Yolanda and husband Dwight Warrington, Irma and husband Jaime Tamez, Hope Porras and Grace Porras; and son, Javier Porras. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who loved their grandmother. Beloved by all her family, Maria will be sorely missed. Pall Bearers will be her grandsons Fabian Salsberry, Abram Porras, Jacob Porras, Andrew Carbone, Anthony Warrington and Steve Warrington. Services will be held at the Holy Family Church, Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. with Rosary and Funeral Mass, following Burial at Mt. Calvary. Due to COVID, there will be no Reception. Services by Riverside Mortuary. Arrangements Entrusted to: Riverside Funeral Home 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE 505-764-9663
