Floyd Wayne Best

Floyd Wayne Best passed away from complications associated with COVID-19 on November 18, 2020, in Albuquerque, NM, at the age of 72. Floyd was born in Fort Sumner, NM, on April 4, 1948. He graduated from Clayton High School in Clayton, NM, in 1966. He was a Brand Inspector for many years for the Colorado Brand Inspection Division and the New Mexico Livestock Board. He was owner of Best Trailers in Artesia, NM, where he manufactured and repaired trailers. He made frequent donations of trailers and other items he constructed to youth groups and other worthy causes. He enjoyed showing and training horses, was a skilled team roper, and loved the rodeo. Unfortunately, he suffered a traumatic injury while team roping in 1998, which ended his rodeo career. For 14 years following the accident, he was cared for by his parents and numerous healthcare workers in Fort Sumner, NM. In 2012, Floyd was moved to Albuquerque and cared for by the wonderful staff at Princeton Place. He was predeceased by his parents Frank & Nadine Best of Fort Sumner, NM & sister, Shirley Ruth Medford. Survivors include his brother Troy Best of Fort Sumner, NM. Nephews, nieces: Bryan Best of Fort Sumner, NM; Frank Howard & Vickie Best & Jaqueline Best of Auburn, AL; Kelly & Jill Medford & Kasi McDaniel of Albuquerque, NM; Kellby Medford of Goodland, KS; Kayla & Joe Lavene of Weatherford, TX; Lisa Medford & Korie & Shon Gibson of Taylor, AZ. Those who knew Floyd will remember him as a hardworking, generous, loving, honest man with a quick wit and a heart of gold.
