Thomas Patrick Haan
June 28th, 1958 - December 4th, 2020
Thomas Patrick Haan, age 62, of Santa Fe, New Mexico passed peacefully Friday, December 4, 2020, at his home. Tom was born on June 28, 1958 in Luverne, Minnesota the son of John Henry and Catherine Jeanne (Follett) Haan. He attended South Tama County School in Tama, Iowa where he participated in football and wrestling. He later obtained his BS in Physics from Western Washington University. Tom worked over twenty years in the radiation protection field, getting the opportunity to travel around the United States. Tom held many roles as a Radiation Protection Instructor, Health Physicist and Radiological Technician at various companies such as Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Power System Energy Services, and Bartlett Nuclear. Tom found his love for teaching while at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas, where he taught Radiation Protection. He continued his teaching of Health Physics at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and was employed there at the time of his passing. Tom's passion was his daughters. From teaching them baking skills such as making pies as young girls, teaching them to drive, watching the girls in swimming competitions, and seeing them graduate from college. His life revolved around their happiness and successful endeavors. He loved listening to music, seeing new bands, watching Austin City Limits, and loved sharing this interest with others. He enjoyed history and learning new things. This curiosity and desire to learn is something he passed on to his daughters. He was known to always have a joke or story to tell, and always appreciated the simple things in life: his family, friends, a nice meal, and a good football game. Tom was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Haan; mother, Catherine Jeanne Haan; brother, John Richard Haan, and his sister Mary Catherine Haan. Survivors include daughters, Caitlin Haan of Germany; Natalya Haan of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Gerald (Susan) Haan of Davenport, Iowa, and Dr. James (Ami) Haan of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Nancy Hill of Warrensburg, Missouri; former wife Jan Haan of Pasco, Washington; and numerous nieces & nephews. Services to be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the caring professionals of: Riverside Funeral Home of Santa Fe 3232 Cerrillos Road (505) 395-9150
