Alice Margaret Lujan, known to many as "Nina", of Las Vegas, NM, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from complications after a severe stroke. She was born on September 1, 1941 to Albert and Eugenia (Jean) Romero. She was a lifelong Catholic and member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She attended West Las Vegas Schools, but she, always the matriarch, "La Otra Mama", spent most of her years caring for others. Through her young life she cared for her own brothers and sisters. Later becoming like a mother to many of us, assisting family with raising our children. She also graciously cared for her elderly grandfather, and father through their end-of-life. Alice later went back to school, obtained her GED, and did what she did best - cared for children - as a Teacher's Aide at Armijo Elementary school. Alice was a championship bowler, and an excellent cook. She enjoyed nature, and fishing. She loved to spend time with family to celebrate, appreciated good music, good food and good fun. Alice adored all her fur babies throughout the years, most recently Chiquita, who she lost only a few months ago, and Chato, who remains here with Nino. She was preceded in death by her parents; Albert and Jean Romero, her infant son Joseph; brothers: Clarence and Charlie Romero; sisters: Sylvia Valdez, and Maggie Benavidez (who passed away only a few hours before her), in-laws; Meliton and Abenicia Lujan, brothers-in-law; Gene Lujan, Armando Lujan, and Johnny Aragon, and sisters-in-law; Mary Lujan and Hazel Romero. Alice is survived by her husband of 62 years, Meliton (Jose) Lujan, Jr.; her special niece Deanna J. Romero (daughter); special great-nephew Gregory C. Baker (grandson) and his wife Shalene; special great-nephew Hayden Alter; special great-niece Zoe Castillo; special great-great nephew Gregory I. Baker; special great-great niece Aunna Alter, all of Las Vegas, NM; brothers: Marvin Romero (Georgianna) of Placitas, NM; Gilbert Romero; sisters: Mary Helen Bustos (Robert); and Doraine Rivera; all of Albuquerque, NM, brothers-in-law: Alfred Valdez of Chihuahua, MX, Lucas Lujan (Jane), Dennis Lujan (Mary Jean) of Las Vegas, NM; sisters-in-law: Lucy Aragon of Las Vegas, NM; Antonia Lujan of Albuquerque, NM; and Darlene Cain-Gutierrez (Rey) of Denver, CO; and extended family members from the: Romero, Eschbaugh, Galindre, Lujan, Valdez, Bustos, Chavez, Cain-Gutierrez and Cruz families, and numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Alice was a beautiful, genuine soul, selfless, and loved by so many. She will be greatly missed. Rest in Love and Light Nina. Cremation has taken place, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
