Mary L. Perea

Mary L. Perea, 95, was born Maria Ursenia Lucero in Ojitos Fritos, NM near Las Vegas, NM to Pantaleon Lucero and Guadalupe Martinez, and baptized in the Roman Catholic Church. She had older brothers Sostenes, Tomás, and Andalecio. Mary lost her mother at age 15 and moved to Las Vegas NM to begin work as a store clerk. She later worked and retired from the New Mexico State Hospital where she worked as a nursing aide in the Children’s Psychiatric Unit. She was an Avon Lady, and later moved to Albuquerque and worked as a Kelly Girl providing home care assistance for the elderly. She remained healthy and independent up until her age of 95 years, living most recently at Bear Canyon Estates in Albuquerque. She maintained a strong Christian faith and served as an example to her family. She passed away from severe pneumonia on Aug 4, 2021at a local hospital and had her family at her side. She is survived by her daughter Virginia Nickeson, son Joseph R. Perea, MD (wife Beverly Gough), son Dale F. Perea (wife Betty) , and daughter Jean A. Perea, all of Albuquerque. She leaves granddaughters Alejandra Maria Costick, Camilla Arrika Gurule, Crystal Perea and grandsons Garon Fulgenzi, Warren Ian Fulgenzi, Joshua Lucero. She leaves nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery (1900 Edith NE near Menaul) in Albuquerque on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10:30 am, and her Cristian burial will follow.
