Stephen Brown Hoffman
December 9th, 1944 - December 4th, 2021
Steve passed away peacefully at home in his sleep December 4th, 2021, just five days shy of his 77th birthday. Steve was a long-time resident of the mountains near Tijeras Canyon, New Mexico. He loved walking the family dog "Browser" in his neighborhood, enjoying his time among the grasses, and pinion and juniper trees, admiring the mountain views, birds and rocks along the way. He loved his family, and was so proud of his two sons. He was a champion chess player and an expert pool player. He loved learning and reading, writing, poetry and language. He was a great writer and shared his beautiful poems with friends and family. He read widely, and was an expert on many forgotten, overlooked and esoteric subjects. He enjoyed his streaming French classes with the Alliance Francaise, and was practicing for his next trip to France and Switzerland. He enjoyed traveling with the love of his life and wife of 41 years, Robyn Hoffman. In recent years they visited Europe and many locations around the Southwest. Luckily for Robyn, Steve was a classically trained gourmet chef who shared his love by cooking for his friends and family. He often said he was her “chief cook and bottle washer”, and liked being her chauffeur around the State for her law cases. Over their 32 years of life together in the East Mountains, they saw dozens of beautiful sunsets and live performances at the Santa Fe Opera. Steve served in the United State Air Force during the Vietnam war, was “Airman of the Year” at Hickam Airforce Base, and graduated from the University of Hawaii on the GI bill. He was a popular bartender in Waikiki and spent memorable days surfing and swimming on the beaches there. Steve was a member of Mountainside United Methodist Church in Cedar Crest. He is survived by his wife Robyn Hoffman, son and daughter-in-law Russell Hoffman and Elizabeth Villamarin, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Christine Hoffman, brother Walter Lawrence (Larry) Leonard, sister Kerry Leonard Buehner, nephew and niece-in-law James and Aileen Hoffman, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Also family-in-law members Robert G. and Ann Brown, Wendy Giardina and copain Claudio Amado, and many dear friends. A family memorial service is planned at the Santa Fe Veterans’ Cemetery
