Mildred Cowen (Berkowitz) died peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Albuquerque, NM at age 97 on December 14th, 2021. Millie was born on June 13th, 1924, in Fords, New Jersey to Arthur and Regina Berkowitz. She graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1941. She married her husband Samuel Cowen in 1948. They lived in many different states, and even in Germany, before settling in Colorado. In 2007, Millie was selected as an honoree for the special event Aurora Women: Sculptors of our Community. The event celebrates Women ‘s History month and honors women who have made contributions to the community. Mille loved to play golf and won six Colorado Senior State Championships and Fourteen Club championships at Fitzsimons and Lowry. In 1979 and 1981, she was selected as Colorado Female Senior Golfer of the Year by the Colorado Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association. She initiated the Girls Junior Golf Program at Fitzsimons Golf Club in the mid-seventies. During this time, she gave lessons to all the junior girls in the program and also created matches with other junior girl programs in the Denver Metro area. She taught water aerobics for over 50 years, finally retiring just before her 90th birthday. Millie is survived by her children Howard Cowen, Arthur Cowen, and Erica Burks; her sister Perle Siegal, her grandchildren Jessica Cowen, Samantha Kern, Eric Cowen, Caitlin Mueller, Gabby Kern, Joseph Cowen, Amelia Cowen; and her two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Cowen, her parents Arthur and Regina Berkowitz, and her siblings Blanche Miller and Sydney Berkowitz
