Bonaire, GA: Charles Fickling Sanders, 89, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Rev. Kenny Rodgers will officiate. The honorary pallbearer will be Mr. Andrew Oder, which was a close friend and neighbor that Mr. Sanders loved. Pallbearers will be Ted Moen, Jed Moen, Jonathan Moen, Dalton Tippins, Bradley Carroll and William Carroll. Mr. Sanders was born in Ideal, GA. He was the son of the late Will and Lizzie Felker Sanders. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lillian Ward Sanders. He served proudly in the United States Marines Corp. during World War II and received a Purple Heart for his combat wounds. After returning from service to Bonaire, GA, Mr. Sanders was employed at Robins Air Force Base where he was an aircraft mechanic until his retirement. He enjoyed farming, his family and attending Bonaire First Baptist Church where he was a member. He was an avid bible reader spending many hours reading in the last years of his life. Survivors include his daughters Linda Elizabeth Vern Horne of Kingsland, GA, Janice David Cox of Warner Robins, grandchildren Tanya Ted Moen of Wrightsville, Bridget Tippins of Folkston, GA, Bradley Candy Carroll of Warner Robins, William Amy Carroll of Warner Robins, great grandchildren Jed Moen, Marilee Moen, Jonathan Moen, Elizabeth Moen, Susanna Moen, Ellie Moen, Emma Moen, Katie Moen, Dalton “”Bo”” Tippins, Addison Carroll and Layton Carroll. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bonaire First Baptist Church Building Fund @ 142 W. Hwy. 96, Bonaire, GA, 31005, in memory of Mr. Sanders. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
