From humble beginnings (on March 26, 1936 in Sistersville, WV), Bill and Pearl Curtis raised their boy to be a good man. They taught him right from wrong, instilled in him good morals, integrity and humility. Character traits he would live by and never compromise. As a young man Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly spent over 22 years until his retirement in 1974. He loved military life and the ability to explore new places, experience other cultures, and meet new people. It was during this time he met the love of his life and decided to make her his wife and her children his own. And so on January 31, 1964, they were wed. Chuck’s “can do,” or “failure is not an option” attitude allowed him to excel in many areas. He became an accomplished equestrian, a decorated veteran, a Department head at the Technical College, and a successful business owner. Being truly a man among men, Charles believed in hard work, discipline, and in going the extra mile. He treated people with respect, believed in doing what was right and fair, and his word was his bond. Charles was a strong leader, a good provider, a fierce protector, a true friend, a loving husband and father, and he loved the Lord. On June 23, 2019, after a long and difficult struggle with injuries and illness- the Lord ended his pain and took Charles home. Charles is preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Neva Curtis Reiser of Arlington, VA; brother, Bill Curtis of High Point, NC; son, Damon John Berg of Bryon, GA; and daughter, Jean Marie Berg Salgy of Duluth, MN. He is survived by his sister, Martha Curtis Donaldson of St. Petersburg, FL; sons, Dean Charles Berg, Daniel Lee Berg, and Darin William Curtis, all of Peach County, GA; wife, Beverly Nelson Curtis who he adored for 55 years; his faithful side kick “General”; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. -We will meet again- A Memorial Service for Chuck will be Monday, July 8, 2019, 6:00PM in the Chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.
